Course Summary:
The full-time Caring for Children Foundation Award at Nescot is a 1-year course that will give you an introduction to the key issues in childcare and education.

Course Details:
The course will include:

• An understanding of your role as a responsible citizen and member of the community
• How humans grow and develop from birth to old age
• An understanding of a balanced diet to ensure healthy growth and development
• How to keep children safe and healthy in the home and in group settings
• How to care for children at different ages, and their basic needs
• The role of an adult in supporting children's play and how children play as part of learning and development
• Basic principles of effective work with children.

Unit 1 Personal development
Unit 2 Human growth and development from birth to old age
Unit 3 Food and nutrition
Unit 4 Health and safety in the home and group settings
Unit 5 Care of children
Unit 6 Play and practical activities
Unit 7 Orientation to work programme.

Career Progression:
CACHE Certificate in Childcare and Education or any other level 2 course; the course also can provide a stepping stone into employment.

Other Information:
You will spend three days a week (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday) in college and one day a week (Tuesday) in placement.

The placements include:

• Schools
• Day nurseries
• Nursery schools

Assessments
At the end of the course you will take a multiple choice test. You must also pass the 7 unit assignments.

You will also gain awards in:

• NCFE practical cookery
• Key skills

Fees:
Students will be expected to pay fees of 35 to cover the costs of cookery activities and 45 for a CRB check which is compulsory in working with children.

A range of visits will be arranged for which travel costs would be approximately 15 each.
