The Course
The IMI Diploma in Automotive Vehicle Engineering Technology gives a good basis for those training to join the motor industry and is well recognised within the trade as the IMI is an established organisation.

Course Content
Level 3 Units (Automotive)

• Contribute to workplace good housekeeping
• Ensure your own actions reduce risks to Health and Safety
• Maintain positive working relationships
• Diagnose and rectify light vehicle engine and component faults
• Diagnose and rectify light vehicle chassis system faults
• Diagnose and rectify auxiliary equipment electrical faults
• Overhaul mechanical units
• Diagnose and rectify light vehicle transmission and driveline system faults

Assessment/Exams
The course is assessed via a combination of examination and continuous assessment.

• Practical assessment workshop tasks measure competence, which is the ability to complete a vehicle related job to a satisfactory standard
• Online examinations that assess underpinning knowledge, the theory of each vehicle system and its related studies
• Phase testing, which are short term time tests (coursework) to ensure one subject is understood before moving to the next topic

Progression/Career Path
Typically, successful leavers will go directly into work within the motor industry at qualified technician status.

Four GCSEs at grade A*-C including Maths, Science and English or Level 2 qualification with tutor recommendation in a relevant subject.
