      You will need at least 2 grade Ds at GCSE. You do not need to have studied the subject before, but you should have a genuine interest in dance and be keen to get involved in practical work.

      Dance BTEC First Diploma This is a practical course that will give you the opportunity to develop your own skills in dance and find out about employment and further study in this area. Classes will take place in a specialist dance studio.

      What will I study?
      You will take part in practical workshops and learn about the performing arts business. Performance is obviously an important part of the course, and you will work in groups to develop your ideas.

      The course is made up of six units. All students take the two core units:
      • Performing Arts Production Process
      • The Performing Arts Business

      You will also take 4 specialist units which may include:
      • Understanding Dance
      • Performing Dance
      • Contemporary Dance
      • Jazz Dance

      You can also take a unit that has an emphasis on Dance, Music Practice or Stage Management.

      How will I be assessed?
      You will be assessed by your tutors on a regular basis throughout the course through a variety of practical projects and assignments, including performance.

      What can I do next?
      On successful completion of the course you will have a qualification that is equivalent to 4 GCSEs, grades A-C. More advanced courses that you could go on to include the BTEC National Award in Dance, the National Award/Diploma in Performing Arts, the National Award in Music or the National Award in Stage Management, but you could also choose to study a BTEC National or A Levels in different subjects.
