Course Details
Areas studied include: Music theory & harmony. Contextual music studies and academic research skills. Studio recording. Music performance skills in a variety of styles and genres including jazz, classical, popular and world music. Music business and industry. Performance organisation and events management. Classical and jazz arranging. Musical notation and transcription skills Aural perception. Film music and foley. Jazz analysis and score analysis. The course gives students a wide insight into the various areas of music studies, whether it be performance, musicology, score writing or technological. Students will broaden their awareness of the music industry and be encouraged to adopt high levels of professionalism in order to satisfactorily succeed throughout the course.
Qualifications required:
Four GCSEs (grades A to C) including English and Maths and either GCSE Music or equivalent music exams (grade 4 or above). Students must demonstrate commitment to the course and an interest in the subject area.
Course length:
National Award is a 1 year course. Successful and students who show commitment and aptitude for the subject will have the opportunity to complete the National Diploma, which is an further 1 year.

The Horncastle Building at the College's Queen's Gardens Centre.

Additional info:
All applicants will be required to attend a 2 week induction programme assessing students' solo and group performance skills, music theory knowledge, reasearch and writing skills. Learners are required to have standard notation music manuscript paper and appropriate standard stationery. With the exception of drumkits and keyboards, all other instruments and accessories are to be provided by the students.
Progression:
The majority of National Diploma Music course completers will and are encouraged to progress onto Higher Education degree programmes.
Learners may also choose to use the skills and networks they have developed to enter the music industry in one the many vocational roles studeied throughout the course.
Session times:
Various between 9am and 5pm on allocated days.
Days running:
National Award Music - Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. National Diploma Music - Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday.
