To be accepted on the course you must have previously gained one of the following: A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade C which should include mathematics and science. A vocationally related Level 2 qualification will be considered Older equivalent GCEs and CSEs are acceptable Acceptance on the course may also be subject to initial tests and a satisfactory reference.

Course Details
The course is suitable for male and female learners with an interest in Mechanical and Electronic Engineering. This advanced level programme has been designed to provide entrance qualifications for Higher Education, for example, the college?s HNC course or related degree level courses at university. Most engineered products and engineering processes nowadays utilise a control system of some type. This course provides a good mixed range of subjects reflecting this integration between mechanical and electronic systems. You will gain the qualification by successfully completing tasks set by your Hull College subject tutors which may include performing practical construction of physical structures, mechanical devices and electronic circuits, programming machinery, carrying out experiments and tests in a machine shop and a laboratory environment. You will also be required to carry out research and to produce assignments and may be tested using written or multi choice tests. The National Diploma comprises 16 units. In the first year you will cover: Communications for technicians Mechanical Principles and Applications Maths for technicians Properties and Applications of engineering materials Electrical and Electronic Principles Principles and Applications of Electronic Devices and Circuits - Business systems for technicians - Engineering design - CAD In the second year of the course you will cover: Project CNC of machine tools Electro, Pneumatic and Hydraulic systems and devices Engineering primary forming processes Selection and application of PLC Further maths for technicians Construction and Application of Digital Systems Microprocessor Systems and Applications
