ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

At least one A-level pass, plus three other subjects at GCSE level grade C;
GNVQ at advanced level with a pass grade;
BTEC National Diploma or Certificate;
The Scottish Certificate of Education with passes in five subjects (two at higher level;
The Irish Leaving Certificate with passes at grade C in three subjects at higher level;
International Baccalaureate with a minimum of 28 points and a minimum of four points in English;
European Baccalaureate with a minimum of 70% overall with grade 7 in English;
Recognised HE preparatory course;
Recognised Access course;
NVQ Level 3 plus successful completion at Level 2 of a Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Test.

Additionally, prospective students with significant industry experience will be considered on merit if they do not meet the conventional academic entry requirements.

PROGRAMME CONTENT/STRUCTURE
This programme is a two year programme leading to the award of a Foundation Degree in Public Health and Social Care. Students who successfully achieve the Foundation Degree have the option to 'top-up' their programme to a BSc(Hons) degree upon successful completion of an additional 120 credits at Level 3 Undergraduate Study.

This programme provides opportunities for developing intermediate-level knowledge, kills and competencies for engaging with contemporary public health and social care, theories, evidence, debates, policy issues and practice.

The course enhances the development of social science-based knowledge and critical understanding of contemporary issues in health and social care, whilst developing the skills for promoting health and wellbeing and engaging with theoretical and practical concepts in public health.

Course structure

Two levels, each of 120 credits.

Level 1 modules include:

Understanding Health and Social Care
Trends in Contemporary Society
Personal Development and Planning
Effective Communication with Children and Adults
IT and Society

Level 2 modules include:

Health Promotion
Healthcare Ethics
Health Illness and Society
Practice Learning
Groups, and Teamwork


PROGRESSION/CAREERS OPPORTUNITIES
On completion of the course students may top-up to the BSc Public Health Degree at Croydon College or the London Metropolitan University or equivalent programmes.

The course incorporates the new public health career framework and provides opportunities for graduates to be equipped with appropriate competencies and skills to work in Assistant Practitioner-type roles in NHS, local authorities, Public Health, Social Care and Community Development and the wider voluntary sector.
