There are a variety of acceptable entry requirements for this course, but each student?s qualification profile and previous learning experience will be reviewed at interview. However, in terms of acceptable GCSEs, a points system linked to your GCSE grades can be used and the following table can be applied. You would need a total of 12 GCSE Points for this particular course. When calculating your points you should include English, Mathematics and a Science subject in the points calculation. Points Calculation GCSE Grade = Points Score A* = 8, A = 7, B = 6, C = 5, D = 4, E = 3, F = 2, G = 1.

The qualification recognises your job knowledge and tests the skills you have acquired. Alongside this course you will also study the Welsh Baccalaureate, which is equivalent to 1 A level. Due to the structure of this course, on completion you will leave the College with 2 qualifications equivalent to 3 A-Levels, greatly enhancing your future opportunities.

What will I study?
You will study units, which reflect the needs of industry while preparing you for a career within the sector. You will also develop Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number. The units you may study include: Handle & Store Materials; Work Relationships; Working Platforms; Preparing Materials; Preparing Components; Using Components & Materials. The course contains both theory and practical bricklaying workshop based lessons with many opportunities to work with hand tools and perform building operations. For the Welsh Baccalaureate you will explore a wide range of areas including how Wales ?fits in? with Europe and the rest of the world, the health of the nation and how to be enterprising.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed via a range of methods, which will include practical and job knowledge unit tests, external examination and portfolios for Key Skills.
Career Opportunities & Progression
As a result of successfully completing this programme you will be able to progress to NVQ 2 (if employed) and/or the Intermediate Construction Award and future employment in the construction industry.
