NSCD's Foundation Course is recognised nationally for producing well-trained dancers who are ready to undertake further vocational training. Its success is reflected in the high number of students securing places on conservatoire training programmes or higher education courses across the UK.
This full-time one-year course includes contemporary, ballet and supplementary technique training and a range of creative and performance workshops. Performance opportunities take place during the second and third terms offering students the experience of performing in a Community Dance project in local schools and a final show at NSCD's Riley Theatre. Students also study dance history and develop research and study skills.
Former students have continued their dance training on NSCD's degree course and at other vocational schools including London Contemporary Dance School, Laban, Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, Scottish School of Contemporary Dance, London Studio Centre, Millennium Dance and at a number of universities offering dance degrees.
Places are offered to candidates demonstrating the greatest potential to benefit from the course regardless of their previous dance experience.
