Course duration 1 year full-time, 2 years flexi/ part-time.

Course Description
The Foundation course is divided into 3 stages exploratory, pathway and confirmatory. These in turn give you the opportunity to create a body of work to provide evidence to achieve 9 different units.

Course Content:
1. Exploratory: This stage looks at the fundamentals of visual language. You will be given the opportunity to explore a range of 2D and 3D processes including Graphic Design, Fashion/Textile Design, 3D Industrial-Design, Ceramics and Fine Art. Supported by Drawing, Printmaking, Photography and Life Drawing.

2. Pathway: This stage allows an increasing move towards your chosen direction within 4 main areas: Fine Art - painting, sculpture, installation, video, photography, printmaking Textiles/Fashion - printed, constructed, theatre costume, Visual Communication - graphic design, illustration, photography, 3D Design and Crafts - ceramics, product and interior design, furniture, jewellery

3. Confirmatory: At this stage you are encouraged to demonstrate and apply your skills and experience by working on a Final Major Project the outcome/s of which, are presented in an open exhibition.

How is the Qualification Achieved ?
There are no formal examinations. Assessment is continuous and the overall grade awarded for the Diploma is achieved on the body of work submitted in response to units 8 & 9.

On Successful Completion of this Course
The Foundation programme specifically prepares you for application to Higher Education courses in Art & Design and offers a broad experience in a stimulating and creative environment.

Additional Information
We particularly welcome part-time and mature students, who always make a strong contribution to this course. Our team of staff are all practising artists and designers. In addition there is a series of educational visits to art galleries and museums and talks by visiting lecturers. This provides a lively, flexible programme of study.
