This 1-year course offers you the opportunity to study a Foundation Science course from both theoretical and practical applications. You will gain the knowledge and experience required to enable you to use Word Processing, Spreadsheet and Investigate Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Human Biology & Mathematics in Laboratory Settings. Alongside this course you will also study the Welsh Baccalaureate, which is equivalent to 1 A level. Due to the structure of this course, on completion you will leave the College with 2 qualifications equivalent to 3 A-Levels, greatly enhancing your future opportunities.

What will I study?
You will study a set of fifteen units mostly at Level I, which provide a broad background and introduction to the world of Science. You will be familiarised with popular Microsoft packages such as ?Word? & ?Excel?, as well as developing Science & Laboratory Skills & procedures. Basic Skills support in literacy & numeracy is available to suit individual needs. You will also have the opportunity to study Key Skills at an appropriate level in Communication, Application of Number & ICT. You will be given the opportunity to study Sustainability & Community Development, Equal Opportunities and Entrepreneurship. For the Welsh Baccalaureate you will explore a wide range of areas including how Wales ?fits in? with Europe and the rest of the world, the health of the nation and how to be enterprising.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed in all units by completing set assignments, short reports and project work. You will also be expected to maintain your course files and portfolios to the required standard.
Career Opportunities & Progression
After successful completion of this course you have the opportunity to progress onto a level II Science programme such as the First Diploma in Applied Science. Successful students may have the opportunity to progress onto the ?Access to Science? course.
