Summary
The National Diploma in General Art and Design is a two year course in which the first year provides a broad foundation of core art and design skills. Students then choose to specialise in year two and can pick from the following: Fashion/textiles, Fine Art, Graphics and Illustration, Interior Design (including Interior Architecture, Exhibition and Theatre set design), or 3D Design (including Ceramics, Jewellery, Furniture and Product Design). All specialist areas include working on computers and an element of Art and Design History. This is a full time course and students will be expected to attend College on at least 3 days per week with 2 days home study.

Qualifications
A National Diploma in Design, which is a level 3 qualification awarded by Edexcel (BTEC).

Progression Routes
This course is equivalent to 3 A levels and qualifies you for progression into Foundation Degree and BA(Hons) Degree courses in Art and Design and related studies, or to employment opportunities within Art and Design.

Course Content
The General Art & Design Route is intended to give students who know they wish to pursue a career in art and design the opportunity to explore the right area of specialism for themselves. The first year will allow them to investigate and explore various creative and visual options allowing an informed decision to be made by the start of the second year. , In the second year students will work within one of the specialist areas. The whole programme is supported by trips to galleries and studios. In the first year, students will take part in a residential visit to help them develop their wider Key Skills. In the second year they will have the opportunity to visit a major foreign city. There are also opportunities built into the course for work placements locally and abroad. In addition there are opportunities on this course to gain extra qualifications in art and related areas.
