General Art & Design National Diploma
This course is aimed at students who have a real interest in the world of Art & Design but are not ready to choose a specialist area.
Course Content:
This course will offer a range of experiences in different media and in a variety of design-based disciplines including 3D Design, Graphic Design, Surface Pattern Design and Model Making. Computer design is an important part of the course and students will be taught how to use industry standard programs on Apple Macs. Students will also be encouraged to look at the work of artists and designers from other times and other cultures to help them to create their own ideas. The course is primarily practical, but students will be expected to provide written contextual research to annotate the developing work and prepare a well thought out evaluation of the final outcome. Students must complete five general art & design core units plus a wide variety of other complimentary art & design units.
Attendance Requirements:
Full-time. Details regarding expected course timetable and attendance will be given at interview, if available.
Entry Requirements:

Entry Process:
All applicants will be invited to an interview with the tutor, allowing you to find out more and check that the course is the best option for you. Interviews normally take place between January and September of the year in which the course starts.
Assessment:
Assessment is continuous throughout the course, and includes a Final Major Project (FMP) that will be internally and externally marked. The overall grade for the qualification (Distinction, Merit or Pass) is based on performance across all units.
Progression Routes:
Students successfully completing the course may progress to design-based HND, Foundation Degree or Degree level courses in a range of relevant subjects.
Career Options:
The qualification can lead to employment in the design industries at junior level. With further study, potential careers include employment in areas such as domestic interior design, commercial interior design, theatre design and exhibition design.
