Description:
The course aims to develop a critical understanding of the relationship between political concepts, the political process and political institutions. The first year (AS) focuses on British politics and government and includes a look at democratic processes, governing the UK and the changing UK system. The second year (A2) provides a detailed introduction to the politics and government of the United States and the comparative features of both the UK and US systems. Students have the opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament and the National Assembly for Wales. In addition we have regular visiting speakers from Parliament, the National Assembly for Wales and Caerphilly County Borough Council, and occasional visits from cabinet ministers
Progression:
Higher education; useful qualification for any English based course such as history and sociology; teaching, journalism, social services, the civil service, the legal profession or the police force.
