Qualifications
The NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing Certificate is nationally recognised, and is awarded jointly by Vocational Training Charitable Trust (VTCT) and the Hairdressing Training Board (HTB).
Progression Routes
Students may progress onto NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing upon successful completion.
Modules
The course consists of the following units to achieve the full NVQ: Mandatory Units (all must be completed) Unit G20: Make sure your own actions reduce risks to Health & Safety, Unit G17: Give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation, Unit G7: Advise and consult with clients, Unit GH8: Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp, Unit G9: Change hair colour, Unit GH10: Style and finish hair, Unit GH11: Set and dress hair, Unit GH12: Cut hair using basic techniques Optional: Unit G4: Fulfil salon reception duties, Unit G8: Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work, Unit G18: Promote additional services or products to clients, Unit GH13: Plait and twist hair, Unit GH14: Perm and neutralise hair, Unit GH15: Attach hair to enhance a style.
Entry Requirements
This course requires students to hold the NVQ Level 1 Hairdressing Certificate, and there is a strong emphasis on the personal qualities required to work in a service industry. All applicants will be interviewed.
Additional Costs
Costs are accurate at the time of printing, but may be subject to amendment: Tuition Head & Kit (£183.50 approx.); Black Tunic (£35.00 approx.); Clippers £40.00. There will be an additional cost for trips and activities throughout the year of £60.00 which will be paid at the beginning of the year.
Course Content
This is a full time broad based course, following a carefully designed programme covering all the skills involved in becoming a hairdresser. The student can work one day per week in a hairdressing salon placement throughout the course, enabling a professional relationship with the industry to be built up, this often leads to Saturday and holiday work, or permanent employment at the end of the course. The School is active in the competition field, and students regularly take part in College, regional and national competitions. Trips to seminars and exhibitions are organised for the students' benefit.
