Hairdressing Level 3 NVQ
This award is designed for learners who already have a level 2 qualification in hairdressing or have industry experience and are working at a level 2, and would like to further their level of skill and technical knowledge.

Course Content:
This is a nine unit award, four units are generic, and these are mandatory, there are three mandatory technical units and two optional units.

  • Unit 201 Working in hairdressing (generic mandatory)
  • Unit 302 Monitor and maintain health and safety in the salon (generic mandatory)
  • Unit 303 Consult with and advise the client on hairdressing services (generic mandatory)
  • Unit 304 Promote products and services to clients in a salon (generic mandatory)
  • Unit 305 Cut women
  • 's hair to create a variety of looks (technical mandatory)

  • Unit 306 Style women
  • 's hair using a variety of techniques (technical mandatory)

  • Unit 307 Colour hair to create a variety of looks (technical mandatory)
  • Unit 308 Perm hair to create a variety of looks (optional)
  • Unit 315 Thermal style hair to create a variety of looks (optional)
  • Unit 316 Provide face massage treatments (optional)
  • Unit 318 Contribute to the effective running of the business (optional)
  • Unit 319 Creative hairdressing design skills (optional)
  • Unit 320 Provide Indian head massage (optional)

    Attendance Requirements:
    Full-time. Monday (full day) and Tuesday (4pm - 8pm).

      Accreditation of Prior Learning / Experience:
      Candidates will be advised upon interview of APL that is applicable and asked for evidence as required on an individual basis.

      Entry Process:
      All applicants will be invited to an interview with the tutor. Interviews normally take place between January and September of the year in which the course starts.

    Work Experience / Practical Experience:
    Students must have current industry experience. Having a work placement enhances progress on the course.

    Progression Routes:
    Students may wish to progress to the diploma in barbering (6902-05), NVQ level 3 in hairdressing or barbering or the Level 4 in salon management.

    Career Options:
    Seek employment as a senior stylist / manager/ess, subject to previous experience.
