The Course
This course also runs at our Shoreham Hair and Beauty Academy (Kingston Buci) and at Littlehampton Skillzone.
The course is an exciting and comprehensive programme of study leading to a professionally recognised qualification in hairdressing and associated subjects.
This is a very practical hands-on course which can be enhanced by the student taking on work experience or paid work in a salon during their course.

Course Content
The course is full time over approximately 3 - 4 days a week. The Level 2 in Hairdressing consists of various units including:
  • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
  • Cut hair to achieve a variety of basic looks
  • Style, set, dress and finish hair and dress long hair
  • Change hair colour
  • Reception duties
  • Health and Safety in the salon
  • Advise and consult with clients
  • Give clients a positive impression
  • Develop personal effectiveness
  • Option to undertake Barbering
Students must achieve a minimum of nine units in order to be awarded the full NVQ qualification.
As part of the course, candidates will also develop character and self confidence as well as making new friends.

Assessment/Exams
Following your initial training, you will be assessed through a combination of practical salon observations, working on paying clients. You will develop essential underpinning knowledge through group work and demonstrations, assignments, case studies and compulsory written assessments. Students will also produce a portfolio of evidence. Students are able to work at an individual pace depending on previous experience.

Progression/Career Path
Initially, experience and confidence needs to be gained to allow you to progress on to Level 3 Hairdressing and enjoy a responsible and rewarding career. There are many career paths to choose from ranging from working as a stylist in a salon, freelance work, session stylist, TV work, theatre and cruise ships.

This course includes a six week induction period to assess the capability to achieve this qualification. Students who are unable to demonstrate the required ability will be offered the Level 1 qualification in Hairdressing.
Good communication skills and command of the English language are essential.
100% attendance is expected on this course.
You must be prepared to:
  • stand for long periods of time and have good vision and good dexterity
  • carry out treatments on and receive treatments from each other
  • provide a range of models on a weekly basis
  • wear our standard professional uni form for practical sessions (please ask for a copy of our College uniform and kit requirements)

You will be required to attend a presentation and interview. Successful candidates will be invited to attend a taster day. School leavers will be required to bring their latest school report and predicted grades.
