About this course
Ideally students should have 1 or 2 GCSEs grade A-C but a portfolio of D grades is considered or a BTEC Introductory Diploma in Health and Social Care. You will need a genuine interest in people and to demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm. Need to be reliable, honest and trustworthy, well motivated and self reliant. Students should be at least 16 years of age.

Course Content
This one-year course enables students to study a range of Health and Social care units and choose from a variety of workplace settings e.g. playgroups, residential and working with special needs.
Study units include two core units:
- Communication and Individual Rights within the Health and Care Sectors;
- Individual Needs within the Health and Social Care Sectors.
There are also four specialist units:
- Cultural Diversity in Health and Social Care;
- Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care;
- The Impact of Diet on Health;
- Lifespan Development.
Work experience is a requirement of the course. Students can choose from a variety of settings, e.g. playgroups, residential and working with special needs. There is an emphasis on the development of skills with help and support available on an individual basis.
All units are internally assessed.
Progression
You will be able to progress to BTEC National Diploma in Early Years, Health, Applied GCE in Health and Social Care or other courses such as NVQ in Childcare. The course also provides a qualification for employment.
Additional Information
Students on this course will be charged for a Criminal Records Bureau [CRB] check. The current cost is £36. Students can apply to the Financial Contingency Fund [FCF] to cover the cost of a CRB check.
