Mental Health First Aid

Course Content

The 12 hour course does not train people to a therapist, counsellor or mental health professional but teaches people to:

• give initial help to someone experiencing a mental health problem
• deal with a crisis situation or the first signs of someone developing mental ill health
• guide people towards appropriate help

The course encompasses the full spectrum of mental ill health from depression, anxiety and stress through to serious psychotic illness and covers:

• Attitudes and stigma towards mental health.
• Signs and symptoms and how to recognise them.
• Assessing the risk to self and others.
• What you can do to help.
• Symptoms, treatment and resources
• Other expressions of distress.

Time: 9.30 am to 4.30 pm each day
