About this course

Students visit a range of industries to give them the opportunity to apply theory in practical settings. These may include: visits to hotels, exhibitions, visitor attractions and airlines. We also have regular guest speakers in who update us on changes and developments in the industry.

Hospitality, Travel and Tourism: BTEC Introductory Diploma
The level 1 BTEC Introductory Diploma in Hospitality, Travel and Tourism is designed to provide a broad, relevant and vocationally based introduction to the hospitality, travel and tourism sectors.

Course details
There are eight units of study and students must achieve a pass on all units to pass the overall course. Students are required to complete ten days of work experience, and attend Key Skills Communication, Application of Number and IT.

How is it assessed?
Each unit is assessed on a range of specific outcomes. All units are assignment based. Students are required to display practical evidence to match the criteria. Work placements are assessed via supervisor reports and by your achievement of a level of professional competence whilst on placement.

One year full-time.

You should demonstrate an interest in and commitment to hospitality, travel and tourism.

Where can this lead me?
If students achieve a Merit they can apply for the next level course, or employment in hospitality or travel and tourism-related industries.

What are the enrichment opportunities?
The department runs visits to a range of companies including visitor attractions, hotels, airlines and theme parks. We offer other vocationally relevant exercises in addition to work experience placements. It is also possible to gain a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate on this course. This qualification is recognised within the hospitality sector.
