The Course
The IMI National Certificate in either Motorsport or Automotive Vehicle Engineering Technology continues to be recognised as a leading qualification and as a measure of excellence.
Those completing the course will have not only a first class knowledge of all aspects of motor and/or motorsport vehicles from a practical viewpoint, but also a thorough theoretical knowledge, essential for those intending to proceed to responsible management positions or design, production and testing roles.

Assessment/Exams
The course is assessed via a combination of examination and continuous assessment.

• Practical assessment workshop tasks measure competence, which is the ability to complete a vehicle related job to a satisfactory standard
• Online examinations that assess underpinning knowledge, the theory of each vehicle system and its related studies
• Phase testing, which are short term time tests (coursework) to ensure one subject is understood before moving to the next topic

Progression/Career Path
Depending upon which discipline you have studied, Automotive or Motorsport Engineering, this qualification enables you to seek employment in either the Automotive (production road car) or Motorsport industry. However, it is suggested to proceed on to the natural progression 2nd year National Diploma qualification offered here at Northbrook, to obtain a full National Diploma.

Four GCSEs at grade D-G including Maths, Science and English or Level 1 qualification with tutor recommendation or Foundation Diploma in a relevant subject.
