The Course
This Level 1 qualification covers the basic technical needs for todays motor vehicle repair industry. It provides essential knowledge for service technicians working on motorcycles in all types of garages and dealerships.
It is a learning programme which involves students studying both the theory and practical aspects of the following:
- Motorcycle construction and routine maintenance
- Operating principles of motorcycle engines, tyres, brakes, steering and suspension systems
- Operating principles and maintenance of motorcycle transmission systems and electrical and electronic systems
- Assembling new motorcycles
Assessment/Exams
The students knowledge is assessed by IMI Awards set practical assessments in a motor vehicle workshop environment for motorcycles. The completed practical worksheets will be placed in a portfolio of evidence which will be assessed internally and externally. IMI Awards set online multiple choice testing and assessments. On successful completion of practical assessments, multiple choice tests and portfolio completion, the learner will be awarded an IMI Level 1 Award in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Motorcycle.
Progression/Career Path
After satisfactory completion of Level 1, learners could either go on to employment and continue their qualification through the day release apprenticeship programme or could also continue their qualification through the full time route by progressing on to Level 2 for another year, and then to Level 3. Satisfactory completion of the three Levels could entitle the learner to progress in to Higher Education.
