The Course
This course is designed to prepare people for work in the brickwork trade and is a combination of practical and theory sessions, enabling you to gain good practical skills with underpinning job knowledge.
You will work towards achieving six units of practical competence through the year and the knowledge you gain of building industry practice will be tested in City and Guilds tests, leading to the joint award of a Construction Awards Alliance Diploma by Construction Skills and City and Guilds. In addition, all full time courses include the mandatory Key Skills.
This qualification is a Technical Certificate which can go towards an NVQ qualification once in employment or into an Apprenticeship framework.
Course Content
The courses assesses six bricklaying units:
Handle and store resources Assessment/Exams
This is essentially a practical course, although there are written assignments linked to the practical work.
Assessment is based on assignments covering both practical and theory aspects of the curriculum. There is also an externally set trade exam.
Progression/Career Path
The Level 1 Diploma prepares students for work in their particular occupation. This course provides knowledge of all aspects of bricklaying and prepares students to enter employment or to progress on to the Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying or to an Apprenticeship.
