The Course
Bricklaying is the most widely recognised construction profession and bricklayers may work with many different materials. Work can be as diverse as building domestic extensions or architectural features, through to constructing housing estates, office blocks or factories.
This course is available to those who have an interest in brickwork and wish to gain employment in the construction industry. This is essentially a practical course, although there are written assignments linked to the practical work and a phase test.

The course assesses six units:

  • Brick and block walling
  • Construction walling detail
  • Setting out basic buildings
  • Signalling for the movement of loads
  • In addition, an external Health and Safety test is a compulsory part of the qualification and is required for the award of the Technical Certificate.
Assessment/Exams
Assessment is based on assignments covering both practical and theory aspects of the curriculum. Tasks include brick and block walls, arches, chimneys and inspection chambers checked to meet industrial standards. Assessment will be on an individual basis and there is a final multiple choice paper.

Progression/Career Path
The Level 2 Diploma prepares students for work in their particular occupation. This course provides knowledge of all aspects of bricklaying and prepares students for entering employment or progressing on to the Level 3 Diploma and attaining NVQ qualifications.
