Description
This course is offered as part of the full time A level programme. The course consists of three units in the first year, two of which are pure mathematics and the other is an applications module. The second year covers two further pure mathematics modules and one more applications module. Applications modules cover statistics and mechanics. The course is delivered to the Edexcel syllabus. The first few weeks of the course are usually given over to studying a bridging course, that aims to cover certain topics that it is essential to master to cope with AS/A2 level work. At the end of the bridging course there is a test and you will be expected to pass that test to continue with the AS level.
Duration
AS level one year/A2 level is a further year.
Method of Study
The course is delivered through classroom lectures. Students will also be required to undertake a substantial amount of work in their own time. This will include regularly set homework that will be formally marked. Assessment is through exams in January and May/June of each year.
Progression
A pass in AS level is necessary to progress to the A2 leading on to a full A Level Mathematics. Students can progress into Higher Education or use the qualification to support applications for employment.
