About this course
Five C grades at GCSE overall, including GCSE Science. High grades in Maths and English are desirable. A very high level of commitment and initiative are necessary to complete assignments and extend knowledge through research.

Medical Science BTEC Diploma (Level 3)
Course content
The Level 3 Diploma has 12 units. Specialist Medical Science units are taken in year one and two. It is possible to take a Forensic Science Diploma by choosing specialist forensic units. Students taking the Diploma are expected to study the Welsh Baccalaureate.

Each unit is taught by a specialist lecturer. Assignments are set regularly and marks are posted online. Students progress is overseen by their personal tutor and by the course team as a whole.
Level 3 BTEC qualifications are A Level standard qualifications and attract the same UCAS points.
The Level 3 BTEC Diploma is equivalent to two A-levels. The Level 3 Diploma was formerly called the -National Certificate.

Duration
The Diploma normally takes two years but a one-year -fast-track Diploma option is possible.
Qualifications gained
BTECs are graded on a Pass/Merit/Distinction scale. Pass is equivalent to E grade A Level. Merit is C grade and Distinction is A grade.
For the Diploma, multiple grades are awarded. The best Diploma score is DD " two distictions, equal to two A grade A Levels.
Assessment
Assessment is entirely through coursework, which takes the form of essays, practical reports, presentations, minuted discussions etc. Most units have four assignments, which are divided into separate tasks " each with a deadline.
Progression
This is an ideal course for progression to Higher Education. Past students are studying for degrees in Medical Genetics, Biology, Paramedic Training, Forensic Science, Dental Technology, Criminology and Biochemistry.
