Modern Science National Diploma
This course is an ideal introduction to all aspects of modern applied Science. The National Certificate allows you to choose your preferred combination of Science subjects, whilst the National Diploma covers all three Sciences.
Course Content:
- National Certificate : The Certificate comprises six general science units and the following mixture of six further specialist units:
- Biiochemistry : three Biology and three Chemistry units
- Medical Physics : three Biology and three Physics units
- Physical Sciences : three Chemistry and three Physics units
- National Diploma : The Diploma comprises six general science units and twelve specialist units: four Biology, four Chemistry and four Physics.
- Applicants should have at least 5 GCSEs at grade C including GCSE Maths, English and Double Science .
- Mature applicants without the formal entry qualifications are welcomed and will be considered individually
Work Experience / Practical Experience:
The course may involve practical laboratory work.
Awarding body:
Edexcel.
Attendance Requirements:
Full-time (approximately three to four days per week). Details regarding expected course timetable and attendance will be given at interview, if available.

Accreditation of Prior Learning / Experience:
Mature applicants (those over 21 years of age at the start of the course) without the formal entry qualifications are welcomed and will be considered on an individual basis.
Entry Process:
All applicants will be invited to an interview with the tutor, allowing you to find out more and check that the course is the best option for you. Interviews normally take place between January and September of the year in which the course starts.
Assessment:
Assessment is continuous throughout the course, with coursework involving research and assignment work. All work is verified externally.
Progression Routes:
Students successfully completing this course will be able to progress to a relevant science programme at degree level.
Career Options:
Students with science qualifications are endowed with qualities and skills that are highly valued by a range of employers. Career paths include employment in a laboratory environment, the police and forensic investigation.
