The Course
This course (equivalent to GCSEs) is taught by practising industry professionals using the Colleges extremely well equipped recording studio complex. It provides an excellent introduction to music technology and production and would suit students who are interested in recording, engineering and programming in the music industry.
Course Content
The course focuses heavily on music technology and covers:
- The Music Business - Record companies, royalties and publishing, how to make money and keep it!
- Sequencing - You will use quality PCs to create and edit music using the industry standard software package - Cubase
- Recording - You will have classroom based theory lessons as well as hands-on practical recording sessions in one of our quality recording studios
- Music Theory - An introduction to notation, including scales and chords, using Cubase as the tool
- Production Project - This is a double unit and will involve investigating and planning for a CD release
Assessment is continual and is through completion of set tasks, written evaluations, presentations and completion of project work.
Progression/Career Path
Students can progress on to the National Diploma in Music Technology or the National Diploma in Music Practice (Popular Music) courses.
