Summary
The National Diploma in Music should interest anyone interested in a career as a performing musician, songwriter/composer, music producer or those with a wider interest in music performance, management or popular music production.The programme covers all aspects of song writing, live performance and rehearsal techniques as well as compositon, contextual studies of popular music and a strong emphasis on music theory and professsional values. It will also include sessions on progression opportunities after the course finishes. There is a strong emphasis on team work in the preparation and performance at live shows and concerts as well as studio recordings. Recent events have included solo performances, musical workshops and group gigs both inside and outside of college. This is a full time course and attendance wil be approximately 2.5 days a week, with the remaining time spent as home study. Home study includes instrumental practice, the preparation for rehearsals and performances, the completion of assignments and individual research. Modules
Year One: Aural Perception Skills for Musicians, Composing Music, MIDI Sequencing, The Sound and Music Industry, Music and Society, Listening Skills for Musicians, Music Performance Session Styles, Music Theory and Harmony. Year Two: Major Music Project, Music Performance Techniques, Working and Developing as a Music Ensemble, Improvising Music, Music in the Community, Planning a Music Project, Pop Music in Practice, The Music Freelance World, Sound for Computer Games.

At least 4 GCSE's at Grades A, B, or C; or a suitable Edexcel (BTEC) merit grade or higher in a related First Diploma. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate a strong ability on at least one instrument and will be required to successfully audition before a place is offered. Candidates are not required to have a specific grade on an instrument but this is desirable. Candidates will also be expected to have a basic understanding of music theory and show enthusiasm and commitment to their continued musical progression in all areas of the course. Candidates must be open to a wide range of musical genres.
