National Certificate in Production Arts (make-up)Course Outline
The BTEC National Certificate is a 1-year practical work related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. You will be designing and producing the makeup and hair for particular characters in productions. Working on ?live? theatrical productions enables you to produce work towards a professional portfolio. As well as learning about the employment area you will develop the skills you need to start a career. It is the equivalent of two A levels which means you may choose to go onto Higher Education.

Entry requirements
You must be at least 16 years of age at the start of the course. You will normally need to have at least one of the following: A BTEC First Diploma in a related subject; at least 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C preferably including English & Maths.

What will I study?
The course is made up of eleven units, three core units, which everyone takes, and eight further specialist units. Core units: Production Workshop; Production for Theatre Performance and Production Planning (project). Specialist Units include: Make-up for Performers; Make-up Design & Application; Special Effects Make-up; Period Make-up and Hair Design for Performers.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment is through a number of practical and written assignments. All units are internally assessed and graded with an overall grading for the qualification awarded.

BTEC National Certificates are valued by employers and Higher Education institutes, (universities and colleges). After successful completion of this course you could further your studies with a BTEC Higher National or Foundation Degree/ Degree course.
