ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants will have met the following entry requirements and attended a successful interview to include both verbal and practical elements and provide a satisfactory references including information on behaviour, punctuality and attendance.

Proven successful completion of at least 5 days work experience in a Beauty Therapy or Hairdressing salon
3 GCSEs at grades A*-D (Maths, English and a Science is essential); or
Certificate in Understanding Personal Therapies (Beauty Therapy); or
Foundation Beauty Therapy qualification; or
Other recognised UK/Overseas related FE Level 1 awards;
Good manual dexterity skills(i.e. an ability to work with their hands);or
Satisfactory references from a salon manager and pastoral tutor (if relevant) indicating attendance, punctuality and behaviour.
Achievement of the Initial Assessment of Numeracy at Entry Level 3 and Literacy at Level 1.


PROGRAMME CONTENT/STRUCTURE
This course involves both practical and theory classes. During the practical lessons students will be working in a realistic salon environment and will be expected to carry out beauty therapy treatments on each other and clients. As clients for all courses cannot be guaranteed, students may need to provide their own clients. Students may be required to carry out work experience activities during their studies.

In addition to Adult Literacy the subjects covered will include:

Health and Safety;
Promoting additional products or services;
Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work;
Facials;
Eye treatments;
Waxing;
Manicures;
Pedicures and an additional compulsory unit currently make-up but subject to change.

PROGRESSION/CAREERS OPPORTUNITIES
On successful completion of this course, students will have the opportunity to find employment within the Beauty Therapy industry or progress onto the NVQ Level 3 in Beauty (or Complementary) Therapy course at Croydon College or other institutions. Progression is not automatic. Applicants will need to have met the following criteria to be considered for progression.

Achieve keyskills qualifications with proven 80% minimum over 2 terms and commitment to studies.
Successful completion of full Level 2 Beauty Therapy and additional units within 36 week programme.
Proven minimum attendance of 80% for 2 terms.
Achievement of the required level of the Initial assessment at Entry Level 3 Numeracy and Level 2 Literacy.
No record of disciplinary action. However, if so, students must have demonstrated a minimum of eight weeks continual improvement and any targets must have been met.
Completed a successful progression interview.
Demonstrated, proven, consistent levels of professionalism and appropriate levels of communication and interpersonal skills


ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE Assignments, Practical assessments, Portfolio Building, Exams.
EXCURSIONS / WORK EXPERIENCE Health and Beauty Exhibition. Students are advised that they may benefit from continuous work placement whilst studying on the Level 2 programme.
