About this course
Level 3 candidates must demonstrate the ability to work at A level standard. Applicants must be working in a dental surgery assisting the dental surgeon for at least 6 months and are expected to show evidence of relevant work experience, that demonstrates a positive approach. Both male and female applicants are welcome.

Course Description:
National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) for oral health care is a qualification for people who work in a dental practice as a dental surgery assistant. They are awarded for competence in the work situation and reflect knowledge and understanding of the work concerned. The NVQ level 3 requires the achievement of competence from the national occupational standards. There are 11 mandatory units that each candidate must achieve and completion of the VRQ Award for Dental Nurses written test.

Assessment and Progression:
Assessments will be necessary to demonstrate your acquired knowledge. The written test is a 1.5 hour paper set by City and Guilds and the NEBDN (National Examining Board for Dental Nurses). If you are between the age of 16 and 24 you may need to undertake a keyskills programme of application of number and communications. NVQs offer opportunities to a wide range of people to have their skills valued and accredited. They are recognised throughout the UK and enable candidates to progress onto further qualifications in the dental field. Both the NVA and VRQ are necessary for registration with the BDC (British Dental Council) to work in practice unsupervised. As a student on this programme you will be eligible for: - Registration within the awarding body City and Guilds - NVQ standards book along with action plans and review documents - Taught input sessions plus tutorials for advice and support on evidence collection - Assessment and verification (in college and in the workplace)
