The Course

An exciting course for gifted students who wish to explore and develop their skills with a view to progressing to appropriate work in musical theatre or further study. The course programme involves the study and practice of both traditional and innovative areas of musical performance, including the study of Sondheim, Schwartz, Jason Robert Brown and other classic and contemporary innovators in the field of musical theatre. The course includes in-depth vocal training, a range of acting techniques and practitioners and many dance styles including jazz, tap, ballet, contemporary, pas de deux and commercial. Recent musicals have included Sideshow, Bare and Rent and, in addition to this, the students are given the opportunity to present their skills at an agents showcase in Brighton and London.

Course Content
There are 10 units consisting of practical workshops developing students technical skills and knowledge including:

Dance Techniques Classes
Syllabus and freestyle tap, jazz, modern, ballet - all graded from basic to advanced. Commercial, pas de deux and contemporary techniques.

Acting Techniques Classes
Voice production/techniques, dialogue and accents, text interpretation, sight reading, TV and film techniques, vocal/physical characterisation.

Vocal Training
Musical theatre, classical, rock and pop. Portfolio lessons, choral/harmony training, audition workshops, music theory and the estill techniques. Students receive both individual and group sessions.

Musical Theatre
Audition techniques, history of musical theatre, contemporary musicals in context, CV development and headshots, image classes and experience in recording vocals.

Progression/Career Path
Students have progressed to work as professional recording artists, dancers, actors in TV and film or they have continued training at Northbrook and The Royal Academy of Music and have appeared in a variety of productions at venues from The Royal Albert Hall to small touring venues.
