Course Details:
If your paid or voluntary role involves counselling people and you want to develop your competence and/or progress to becoming a professional counsellor, this course is designed to meet your personal and professional needs.
The course will provide you with the necessary training in skills and theory to meet the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy requirements in those areas to accredit individual counsellors. However, it is your responsibility to seek individual accreditation and this entails further supervised practice and completion of the necessary written evidence (support will be given in relation to this process if you progress to the Nescot BA (Hons) Counselling course).
The Diploma course is psychodynamic in orientation with some consideration of the humanistic approach. It is expected that you will have already completed a Foundation course that has introduced you to various orientations so that the choice of a psychodynamically orientated course is a deliberate and informed one.
You will be required to arrange counselling practice for yourself throughout the course and the necessary supervision where appropriate, given that supervision will be offered within the course day. Support and guidance will be available from tutors.
