Public Services BTEC First Diploma
This course is designed to give you an understanding of further study and employment opportunities in the police, fire and ambulance services, armed forces, customs and excise or prison services.

You will develop your knowledge of the Public Services, including entry requirements and working practices. You will also begin to develop the skills you need for a career in this area, and take part in teamwork exercises. There will also be compulsory visits, trips and practical activities which will allow you to make informed decisions about future careers.

What will I study?
This one year programme covers 6 units.

You will take 3 core units:
  • Uniformed Public Services Employment
  • Public Service Skills
  • Uniformed Public Service Fitness

You will also take 3 specialist units:
  • Citizenship, the Individual and Society
  • Adventurous Activities
  • Community and Cultural Awareness


How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through practical projects and written assignments throughout the year and through assessmetns carried out in residentials and outdoor expeditions.

What can I do next?
On successful completion of the course you will have a qualification equivalent to 4 GCSEs grades A-C. Some students may move directly onto employment at the end of the course, but most students will go on to further study at Advanced level. You may progress on to the National Diploma in Public Services, or a combined programme of A levels and awards.
