Course Overview This one year course is for those interested in sport or a fitness related career or keen to progress onto a further education course. You may be selected to join the Football Academy, dependant on trials with Thatcham Town FC. There will be a fee payable to join the Academy, currently 150 per term. You will also be required to purchase a training kit from the College (cost ranges from 15 - 70) If you are not selected to be in the Football Academy, you can study the BTEC First Diploma in Sport (Exercise) at Newbury College.

Qualification gained: BTEC First Diploma in Sport (equal to 4 GCSEs C's and above)

Course Content: The course is structured into modular units. You will study the following six units: Health, Safety and Injury; The Body in Sport; Practical Sport; Psychology for Sports Performance; Nutrition for Sports Performance; Fitness for Sports Performance

Work Experience: You do not need relevant work experience.

Course Assessment: You will be required to submit a number of assignments throughout the course which contribute to each module. Assignments will vary widely in their style and include reports, projects, presentations, practical work, oral work and time constrained assignments

Progression: Progression is onto the National Diploma in Sport, work based NVQ in Sport or other Level 3 qualification.

Homework: You will be expected to spend at least 5 - 10 hours per week outside of class time on your course work.

Additional Costs: If selected for the Football Academy: Football Training Kit (15 - 70). There will be a number of trips throughout the year costing around 100

Entry Requirement

You will normally need to have at least one of the following: A BTEC Introductory Certificate or Diploma in a related subject, a standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to 4 GCSEs at D grades or above, other related level 1 or 2 qualifications. To enter the Football Academy you must be currently playing for a club, and successfully pass the trials held at Thatcham Town FC You should also be keen on sports and be prepared to undertake a variety of sporting and fitness activities.
