This course is a practical, hands-on programme taught in the context of real jobs within a vocational area. It gives you the chance to explore the opportunities offered in that area and acquire appropriate vocational skills.
Course Content:
Subjects studied will include:
- Starting work in the IT industry *
- Working in the IT industry *
- Developing skills in IT
- PC systems
- Financial management
* Assessed by an 'Integrated Vocational Assignment'. Optional subjects studied include:
- Using the internet
- IT applications
Additionally you may have the opportunity to study GCSE English and/or Mathematics.
Awarding body:
Edexcel.
Attendance Requirements:
Full-time. Details regarding expected course timetable and attendance will be given at interview, if available.
Entry Requirements:

Entry Process:
All applicants will be invited to an interview with the tutor, allowing you to find out more and check that the course is the best option for you. Interviews normally take place between January and September of the year in which the course starts.
Assessment:
Internal assessments are set and marked by College staff. The integrated vocational assignment is an externally set and marked assignment.
Progression Routes:
Progression to a Level 2 qualification, such as the BTEC First Diploma for IT Practitioners. Alternatively you may choose to change to a vocational area such as Travel and Tourism or Business Studies.
Career Options:

The course provides you with the opportunity to build your confidence, as well as a broad introduction to the industries, developing your understanding of the relevant practical skills and underpinning knowledge needed in this field of work. You could progress onto one of the Level 2 courses offered. Functional skills of English, Maths and ICT are a key part of this course.
