European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)

A very popular qualification that is being promoted throughout the World. It is accredited in the United Kingdom by the British Computer Society (BCS)

The course is designed to prove that the candidate is competent in the use of computers and have basic knowledge of the theory behind them. It is split into seven modules and the student must demonstrate through exams a medium to high level of competence in each area.

Modules

Basic Concepts (Multiple Choice)
Consists of the basic concepts of Information Technology, including IT and Society, Security, Copyright Law, Hardware and Systems Software, Ergonomics and Networks.

Modules 2-7 Related to Practical Tests in the Following subjects:

Managing Files - Searching, copying, moving, renaming and deleting files and folders.

Word Processing - Opening, saving and modifying a file, formatting and manipulating text, creating multi-page documents, working with graphics and mail merge.

Spreadsheets - Creating a spreadsheet, creating basic formulas, using auto-fill feature, creating charts and graphs, using inbuilt functions.

Database - Creating and maintaining a database, creating a form, creating and modifying a query, producing reports.

Presentation - Creating and modifying a Presentation with bulleted lists, graphics and organisational charts applying slide transitions. Saving a running a slide show.

Internet & E-mail - Sending and receiving electronic mail, recording mail addresses, using an internet search engine, recalling saved pages and navigating around a website.

Using I.T. - This section is designed for students to learn more about some of the more relevant legislation (connectivity, Health & Safety, Data protection). Also information about the planning and understanding of software.
