Course Summary:
This course is based on the Institute of Acoustics (IOA) Certificate of Competence Syllabus.

The course will be practically based with emphasis on "hands-on" use of sound level meters to carry out noise surveys and assessments of noise levels. It will also include demonstrations, videos, graded exercises for delegates, report writing, case studies and tutorials.

Course Details:
The course consists of:

• Basic concepts - principles of sound generation and propagation
• Measurement and instrumentation - types of sound level meter and their uses
• Noise surveys - the conduct of noise surveys
• Hearing and hearing protection - hearing and its measurement, noise induced hearing loss, personal hearing protection
• The Law - Health and Safety at Work Act, Noise at Work Regulations
• Noise reduction techniques
• Revision and examinations

All delegates are provided with revision notes and sample assessment in preparation for the IOA Examination and to give everyone maximum opportunity for success in achieving the Certificate of Competence.

The practical test
The practical test may be taken at the college on the last day of the course or the morning before the written examination. Other alternative practical test sessions could be arranged after the course.
