Course Content
The Level 3 course provides knowledge and understanding of childcare and education to enable individuals to gain a nationally recognised, vocationally specific qualification to enter employment or higher education. It is an ideal programme for those who have achieved 4 GCSE's at C grades or above or an appropriate Level 2 qualification. Students attend college and placement on alternate weeks throughout the two year programme.
Course Features
Students follow a 2 year programme of study in which theory and practice are closely integrated.
A total of 750 hours of practical placement training in a variety of settings will be experienced.
Bilingual students can complete assignments /work experience in their preferred language.
Students will be involved in stimulating student centred learning programmes.
This qualification provides access into employment or a vocational progression route into higher education.
Students will also receive Basic First Aid and Food Hygiene training.
Students will also study for the six Key Skills during the two year period.
Career Prospects and Progression
Successful completion of the DCE Level 3 diploma can lead to employment with young children in a variety of childcare settings e.g. Nursery/Creche, Holiday Representatives, Playgroups, Hospitals and primary schools.The Diploma programme also provides an excellent basis for progression to Higher Education e.g. Degrees in Primary Teaching, Social Inclusion,Early Years Foundation/Full Degree programmes and degrees in related topics.

Mandatory Units: Unit 1 An Introduction to Working with Children Unit 2 Development from Conception to Age 16 years Unit 3 Supporting Children Unit 4 Keeping Children Safe Unit 5 The Principles Underpinning the Role of the Practitioner Working with Children Unit 6 Promoting a Healthy Environment for Children Unit 7 Play and Learning in Children's Education Unit 8 Caring for Children Unit 9 Development of Professional Skills within Children's Education A further three optional units will also be studied.
Method of Assessment
The course is based on continuous assessment. Assignments are externally set by the CACHE awarding body and marked internally.
