BTEC Nationals in Public Services are designed to provide the learner with the opportunity to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills in a variety of subject areas related to the uniformed public services, providing the learner with a realistic view of public services as a rewarding working environment.
About this course
Minimum of four GCSEs at Grade C or above, or GNVQ Intermediate or First Diploma level, and an appropriate NVQ at Level 2 are also acceptable. There are no formal entry requirements if you are aged 19 or over, but entry is subject to an interview.

Career Prospects and Progression
BTEC National Award/Certificate and Diploma in Public Services enable learners to develop transferable skills, providing an excellent basis for progression to Higher level qualifications such as Degrees or Higher National Diplomas. Careers directly related to the National Award/Certificate and Diploma would include Police Officer, Fire Fighter, Paramedic or member of HM Forces, HM Revenue and Customs, community service organisations and emergency service related organisationsand Customs, community service organisations and emergency service related organisations.

The Core Units are: Unit 1 Government, Policies and the Public Services, Unit 2 Team Leadership in the Uniformed Public Services, Unit 3 Citizenship, Contemporary Society and the Public Services, Unit 4 Team Development in Public Services, Unit 5 Understanding Discipline within the Uniformed Public Services, Unit 6 Diversity and the Public Services. The following are some of the many specialist units that can be chosen: Physical Preparation and Fitness, Crime and its Effects, Major Incidents; Expedition Skills; Understanding ICT in Local and Central Government.
Method of Assessment
Continuous assessment, monitoring of coursework and assignments count towards the final award.
