About this course
Students 16 - 19 year old should normally have achieved 4 GCSEs at Grades A* - C including Science, a related GNVQ Intermediate or BTEC First Diploma at Merit level or equivalent qualification. Mature applicants may be considered without formal qualifications at the discretion of the Faculty.

Additionalities on the course include, NVQ Level 2 in Activity Leadership, First Aid, Level One Coaching in a variety of sports.
Semesterised timetable taught over 12-14 contact hours per week.
Entry requirement 5 GCSE's at Grade (C) or above to include Double award Science.

Career Prospects and Progression
The National Diploma is an excellent progression route to Higher level qualifications - Degrees or Higher NDs. Careers directly related to Sport and Physical Education include Fitness Centre Manager, Leisure Services Manager, Outdoor Pursuits/Adventure Instructor, Sports Administrator, Sports Coach/Instructor, Sports Development Officer, PE Teacher or Lecturer. Other careers where the study of sport would be useful could include Emergency Services, Armed Services, Sports Journalism, Marketing
Modules
The course is based on the biological and physical sciences and all students will follow the following modules: Year 1 - Scientific Principles - Practical Sport Coaching - Anatomy and Physiology - Skill Acquisition - Fitness Testing - Exercise Health and Lifestyle - Sports Injuries - Physiological Aspects in Sport Year 2 - Exercise Physiology - Sport and Exercise Science Project - Sport Psychology - Nutrition for Sport and Exercise - Sport Massage - Biomechanics - Practical - Technological Developments in Sport Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis Students will also have the opportunity to achieve National Governing Body Coaching and Refereeing Awards in a variety of sports.

The course is continuously assessed and will include assignments, practical work and externally assessed assignments.
