Course Content
This one year course is designed to prepare students for entry to degree level art and design programmes. Working with a wide range of materials and techniques, it aims to put students ahead of the competition by offering a fast paced and diverse curriculum. This will help individuals assess their potential in an intensely creative environment where staff encourage inventiveness, experimentation and analysis.
Course Features
Drawing forms a vital part of the programme and taught sessions extend understanding of visual language, self-expression and confidence to experiment.
Assignments allow exploration of new ways of thinking and working, whilst the lecturers - who are both practitioners and experienced teachers - help realise potential by developing critical skills and understanding of specialist disciplines.
Contextual studies support and inform all aspects of the course.
Foundation students work along side BA students in excellent workshop facilities and are allocated individual studio spaces.
The ratio of students to staff is excellent which allows for a high level of tuition and support.
Students specialise in the second and third term and can choose from Fine Art, Fashion and Textiles, 3D Design or Visual Communication and Lens Based Media..
In the third term a major project allows you to design your own brief, consolidate ideas and exhibit to the public.
Students are guided through the UCAS HE application procedures. You are advised individually on subject and course choices and attend workshops which cover research, on-line application and portfolio building. A course data-base allows students to contact past students at institutions they are thinking of applying to.
Local and foreign study visits allow students to view exhibitions and experience cultural centres which develops your awareness of art and design.
Students can opt to study additional credited evening classes run by the Faculty in areas such as Pattern Cutting, Photography and Life Drawing.
