Functional Skills English

The qualification focuses on the development of English and effective communication skills to assist in everyday life, for education and work. Functional Skills in English Qualification aims to allow learners to work confidently, effectively and independently in life by developing practical skills in English.

The qualification is taught at three different levels: Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2. You will undertake an initial assessment to determine which level will be most suitable for you to start at.
The qualification is recognized by employers and most Universities as being an equivalent level to GCSEs.

You will study topics such as:
• Letter, Email, Report and Article writing Skills
• Discussion skills
• Reading strategies
• Punctuation and grammar
• Language techniques

Teaching Method
The course is delivered by experienced tutors using a variety of interesting resources. Sessions are friendly and fun and allow you to work at your own pace. You will study in our classrooms

The Functional Skills qualifications are for anyone who wants to develop their English, There are no formal academic entry requirements.

Content and Course Structure
The qualification consists of 3 units
Reading
Select, read, understand and compare texts and use them to gather information, ideas, arguments and opinions
Writing
Write a range of texts including extended writing documents, communicating information, ideas and opinions, effectively and persuasively
Speaking, Listening and Communication
Make a range of contributions to discussions in a range of contexts, including those that are unfamiliar, and make effective presentations.
Assessment Method
You will undertake practical assessments (lead a discussion and deliver a presentation) and pass two online examinations (one reading and one writing examination). You will be required to attend a City & Guilds examination centre to complete the online examinations.
