course description
this course is designed, to introduce the fundamental components of cryptography, namely symmetric and public key algorithms, and examine the key management issues relating to the use of these techniques. this topic is approached in a non-mathematical way.

introduction
- the need for security
- security services - confidentiality, data integrity, authentication (of message source and of identity) and non-repudiation


basic concepts
-symmetric algorithms:
stream ciphers, block ciphers, des, aes, modes of operation (ecb, cbc, cfb, ofb), message authentication codes (macs)
-asmmetric techniques:
public key encryption (including rsa), key-agreement (diffie-hellman), digital signitures (including rsa, dsa) and elliptic curve cryptography
