Course review:
This 12-week course investigates and explains the principal agreements involved in the oil and gas industry. It examines the activities and phases involved during the lifecycle of a petroleum field, and gives detailed analysis of the key contracts which come into play at each stage. Using the concept of a contract matrix, the principal agreements are introduced, analysed and explained in a practical context.
Starting with the contracts involved in seeking and gaining authorisation, the syllabus progresses through the field project lifecycle to examine joint operating agreements and contracts used in the exploration and appraisal phase. Agreements relating to the production and sale of oil are explained, as are the contracts governing the abandonment and decommissioning of a field at the end of its life.
The six clearly-written modules will benefit not only lawyers but also all professionals working in or supporting the oil and gas industry in any capacity where a solid grasp of the agreements which govern every activity and relationship are a vital necessity. This will lead to a deeper appreciation of the commercial implications of contracts, helping to strengthen negotiation strategies and enhance career prospects.
