What will I learn?

The core of this course is directed towards making furniture by hand It will also include the design process, health and safety, timber technology, attaching doors, drawers and fittings, sustainability, technical drawings and workshop geometry Additional units in restoration and veneering can also be achieved

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will be through assignments and multiple choice tests

Entry Requirements

You will need to achieve a Level 1 qualification (or above), and will have to do a Functional Skills 'Number and Communication' diagnostic test (and have a satisfactory report from a previous learning institution) Students can progress onto a Bench Joinery course or find employment in furniture restoration, installation, design & making, and furnishings You could also progress onto this course from Level 1 Carpentry & Joinery (with a Level 1 or above Functional Skill in Numeracy and Literacy) Entry onto the course will be subject to interview

Additional Information & Other Costs

You will be required to have steel toe capped safety work boots and a stationary kit for writing, drawing and classroom activities Cabinet making and furniture textbooks will be required
