These will include caring for a home and garden, accessing the local community and preparation for work. You will develop skills during work experience in our Fleet shop, progressing to work experience in the community when you are ready. Support is available to meet the individual needs of our students.

Course programme

No specific entry requirements are required, but students must show, through an interview, committment to the course. Course Content New skills will be learnt and qualifications obtained through work experience in the College’s retail shops and garden centre. The qualifications are: • Certificate in Progression Entry Level 3 • Award in Introduction to Horticulture Entry Level 3 • Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT. These qualifications involve: • practical activities such as retail and horticulture in a working environment • the chance to take part in activities such as sport, art and performing arts • taster sessions in other vocational areas of the College • visits to various attractions and facilities • two-night residential outing to have fun and develop team skills • job seeking and employability skills • team skills • discovering the community • have fun investigating leisure activities in the local area. How will I be assessed? The course is assessed through a portfolio of evidence; these can be written pieces, witness statements or photographs. English, Maths and ICT are assessed through formal exams. Progression On successful completion of this course progression may be possible to a full-time, vocational course of choice. Fees • If you are aged 16-18 as of 31st August on the year of enrolment - no course fee. • If you are over 19 as of 31st August and enrolling on a full-time programme of study a tuition fee will be applicable in most cases. Bursary Funds There are financial support arrangements for 16-18 year olds and hardship funds available for the over 19s.
