This course provides an in-depth introduction to the development of a school garden and the integration of gardening into the curriculum, with many practical ideas and suggestions for linking learning experiences to work in the garden. It also explores the social and emotional aspects of gardening, and looks at the role the school garden can play in expanding and enriching the school curriculum, as well as in support for differently-abled students.
Subjects covered include: planning and creating a school garden; health and safety, gardening and the curriculum; choosing plants for a children's garden; growing food with children; garden activities and projects; involving parents; identifying sources of funding and resources.
The course includes all study material, course book, The Playground Potting Shed: A Foolproof Guide to Gardening with Children, and full tutorial support from your expert personal tutor.
On successful completion of the course students are awarded a Learning Curve certificate. Learning Curve is accredited as a training provider by the Open and Distance Learning Quality Council.
Our course is composed of 6 easy-to-follow modules. There are 6 tutor-marked assignments. It involves approximately 36 hours of study time.
