Is it for me?

What do I need?
Four GCSEs at grade A*C which might include a GCSE at grade A*C in Media Studies or English, or both Other level 2 qualifications such as Intermediate GNVQ in Media; Communication and Production; or an Edexcel BTEC First Certificate or Diploma in Media

You should also be keen to assemble a portfolio of work whilst at the same time gaining a practical understanding of how the media industry operates.

What will I study?
In the AS units you will study:
Industries, Texts and Audiences Unit 1 Skills for Media Production Unit 2 Media Production Brief Unit 3
In the A2 units you will learn about:
Research and Development for Media Production _ Unit 4 Media Production Project Unit 5 Professional Practice in the Media Industries Unit 6

How will I be assessed?
You will create a media product for assessment in both the AS and A2 tiers. AS Units 1 and 2 are assessed by coursework. AS Unit 3 will be assessed by means of a set brief published by Edexcel. Your work for this brief will be marked by your teacher and moderated by a visiting examiner. A2 Units 4 and 5 are assessed by a coursework project. You will be assessed in A2 Unit 6 by your report on the project you have undertaken for A2 Units and 5.

What qualification will I get?
GCSE Applied AS/ Applied A Level in Media: Communication and Production

Can I go onto further study?
The GCSE in Media: Communication and Production qualifies for UCAS points so if you complete it successfully you could move on to study for a degree or BTEC Higher National Diploma in related subjects You could also go on to relevant employment.
