2. Course description The course comprises of performing composing and musical analysis. You are given many platforms to hone your performing skills throughout the year leading to a final performance at the end of the year which is submitted to the exam board. As a composer you will complete a 3 minute composition working towards a brief set by the exam board. As a musical analyst you will be given a number of set works to study (10 in the 1st year and 13 in the 2nd year) which cover all styles of Western Art Music as well as a sample of World Music and Popular Music. You will develop your skills of harmonic analysis aural perception and critical thinking through listening based and essay based questions.

3. Entry requirements A minimum of 2 B grades and 3 C grades. You must have achieved a grade B in English Language and Music. Being able to read music fluently is essential. If you did not have the opportunity to take GCSE Music then we would expect that you will have ABRSN/Rockschool/LCM Grade 5 on your instrument/voice. 4.
